In Switzerland, SERVAS existed already in the fifties. However, it was only in the seventies that SERVAS got really rooted: thanks to the then National Secretary Denise Waech and her activities, the number of hosts grew in no time from 12 to 60. Since then, SERVAS Switzerland has grown slowly and continuously to over 200 host families. For the last few years, the number has always been between 220 and 240.
In the beginning, Denise Waech was the only coordinator. From the early eighties onwards, a team of alternating members took care of operating SERVAS Switzerland. Since March, 24th, 2007, SERVAS Switzerland is organized as an association with corresponding statutes. All the work, in fact, is carried out voluntary by the Executive Board.
SERVAS Switzerland is a full member group of SERVAS International.
